The Secret Unit Better Than Special Forces
There's an elite band of 80 men within the British Military whose selection process is longer and tougher than even Special Forces.
They operate in extreme environments where just to survive you need a level of skill that puts you in the 1% of the 1%.
I spent the day climbing Commando Ridge with a former member of this unit. This is the historical proving ground where for over 80 years they have trained and tested their skills for every conflict from the D-day to the Falklands and the Middle East.
From surviving in the arctic to Afghanistan, hunting Al Qaeda in the Hindu Kush. For 10 years Tommy served at the sharp end.
I’m going to dig deep, reveal, and share with you the mindset secrets of the men who do a harder selection course and get less pay and recognition than Special Forces.

I literally smash caffeine, newborn, train 5 days a week without fail, 50 hours of work and I'm constantly shattered. Mentally telling myself to get a grip, do the run, push harder, do that overtime. Energy drink, black coffee. When i finally stop i can fall asleep anywhere, making me think the caffeine isnt the problem because i can sleep no drama, its the workload tiring me out. Going to try 30 days withthout it. I'll leave a reply for anyone interested.

As a cyclist, I am called skinny by guys that are bulked and spam chest day, but I would say I'm lean and toned. I tone my upper body, train my core a bit more and obviously my legs the most. My question is do I have to get 'big' to make it in the sas? And can I pursue professional cycling and a career in the army simultaneously? (Ignore my username I'm staying anymous)

The title and intro regarding Royal Marine Mountain Leaders is not justified. Yes, in regard to the specific training undertaken for the role they provide, they are exceptionally well trained to the highest standards in that discipline. But it is a narrow area of skills applicable to quite specific environments. It is like claiming a world class 100m sprinter is superior to a world class decathlete. The sprinter, being the Mountain Leader, is trained to the highest standards and achieves world class performance, but it is one discipline. Whereas the world class decathlete, being say 22 SAS, excels in a wide range of disciplines at a level not far off the best at each discipline (and in some areas, 22 SAS _are_ the best, arguably). To expand the sprinter/decathlete analogy; 22 SAS has mountain troops, operators trained to very high standards in all things mountain. But the Mountain Leader 1 (there are 3 levels, ML1 being the highest) is above what mountain troop operators do, the extra abilities of MLs are not necessary in the SAS role. So, on the one hand 22 SAS mountain troop members are not at the level of ML1 personnel. But, that 22 SAS operator has another half dozen or maybe more disciplines under his belt that the ML has relatively little or no experience in, just as the sprinter/decathlete analogy shows. For this program to outright state MLs are above and beyond 22 SAS, well, as I stated at the outset, they have not substantiated their claim.

Each to their own in the UK special forces , and with their own unique set of skills , however the SAS still rank as the bunch with the largest skill set spread across four Squadrons where their troops rotate through different specialist roles and of course their infamous Counter Revolutionary Warfare (CRW) Wing and Revolutionary Warfare Wing (RWW)

A beautifully produced and life-saver of a video. Spot on. And from someone who knows what meaningful life/death stress is about. The wave of continuous, widespread and complex accumulation of micro-stresses people are now living with in civilian life is astonishing. We all can become subject to the boiling frog syndrome. And the only thing to solve something that messy and pervasive is going to be at the fundamental level: Mindset, breathing, movement, habit. Amazing corpus of life advice in these videos and newsletters - think a lot of people can be grateful you found your own Natural Edge!

there was a time when there was an argument to be made between sas and sfod-d but gwot changed that. the amount of experience cag got from hitting multiple targets every. single. night was like a hammer banging away on steel, forging the greatest warfighters the world has ever known. if sas had the opportunity to hit it as hard as cag did, im sure they would have been more than capable of keeping up. maybe even surpassing delta.. but thats just not how things turned out.

My thoughts go to when these well sorted people complete the course, become a ML, serve for 7 years, then the identity and belonging to a highly regarded group they held so dear goes away on discharge- then what? This is where the real things start. Do you value yourself on who you are or what you do..? Absolute admiration on all of what is required. Brilliant editing and storytelling,\\ Well done.

I’m in total admiration of the people who do this work. One question: when watching and listening, I was particularly interested in the unspoken aspect - the ‘need’ for extreme haste (get up there alive, undetected, with your full crew, and arms and munitions 10 minutes ago’. How does this imperative affect skills of these total professionals? Ie, adding the combat aspect to nice hard climb on the coast at night?
